Smith began with the department on October 12, 2005.  He is employed on a part-time basis.  Smith works full-time with the Boone County Sheriff's Department.  He has Bachelor Degree in Social Science Education 7-12 from the University of Nebraska Kearney.  Smith is a 13 year Navy veteran and actively drills in the Navy Reserves as a Petty Officer First Class.  Smith is the webmaster for the Humphrey Police Department website.  He recently was awarded the Navy's Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for his off duty time as the Humphey Police Department webmaster.  He has been in law enforcement since 2004, attending the Nebraska 159th Basic Academy.
